Schedule of performances: 2006 Guadalajara Book Fair

‘Andalucía, paisajes y palabras’. This title about Andalusia, landscapes and words presents Andalusian literature as the guest of honor of the 2006 Guadalajara Book Fair in Mexico. And that involves carrying out an intense program of activities adorned with flamenco. To appear on the stage located at the Explanada between November 25th and December 3rd is the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía, the public Andalusian company directed by Cristina Hoyos, with ‘Romancero gitano’ and ‘Viaje al Sur’; performances by Carmen Linares and Antonio el Pipa, among others; and representatives of the most heterodox flamenco such as Diego Carrasco, Tomasito, Chambao and Niña Pastori.

Together with names like Francisco Ayala, Caballero Bonald and José Saramago, appearing in the lineup of the 2006 Guadalajara Book Fair are those of Carmen Linares, Antonio el Pipa and Tomasito. And the thing is that flamenco is going to be in the limelight at this festival of letters dedicated to Andalusia in this, its twentieth edition. On the occasion of the invitation to the region occupying the south of Spain, the Mexican literary event has prepared a full lineup of shows at the Explanada, from November 25th to December 3rd. And flamenco is going to be the star in all its facets: cante, baile, toque and fusion.

Inspired by the readings of poets as flamenco as Lorca, Rafael Alberti and Antonio Machado, to appear on stage are shows such as those of the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía, which will inaugurate the bill with ‘Romancero gitano’ and close it with ‘Viaje al Sur’. Doing solo performances will be cantaora Carmen Linares and bailaor Antonio el Pipa. And highlighting several collective programs are the appearances of flamencos as heterodox as Tomasito, Diego Carrasco, Niña Pastori, Chambao and Los Delinqüentes, among others. It isn’t the first time flamenco has made its presence felt at the Guadalajara Book Fair, where artists have performed of the likes of Miguel Poveda, who sang at the 2004 edition.
