On the night of January 21st, ‘Sin
muros!’ by Dorantes
is the show which opens the third edition of the Dutch Flamenco
Biennial at the Rotterdamse Schouwburg. The Lebrija-born
pianist has bailaores Joaquín Grilo and Pastora Galván
as guest artists, with the lineup being completed by contrabass
player Renaud García Fons, cantaor José Valencia
and Theodossi Spassov on kaval. With his musicians,
on the following night he stars in a jam session entitled
‘Free Jazz Flamenco’, preceded by the Hispanic-Dutch
Cartini Jazz Project, which includes the participation of
flamenco guitarist Tino van der Sman. On January 23rd, the
activity is split up between baile and guitar. In the early
afternoon at the theater’s Grote Zaal, Rocío
Molina – winner of the 2010 National Dance Prize
– will perform her show ‘Oro viejo’. Diego
del Morao will offer a presentation of his debut album ‘Orate’
and the recital ‘Sólo guitarra’ at LantarenVenster.
Completing the program in the port city are original activities
such as ‘Flamenco majorettes en la calle’ and
the flamenco hip-hop show ‘Battle por fiesta’;
the showing of Carlos Saura’s ‘Flamenco, flamenco’
at LantarenVenster; and the workshop program at the Conservatorium
Rotterdam, among others, the compás and clapping
workshop by Diego Carrasco and Faustino Núñez.
Beginning on January 25th, the festival’s activity
moves on to Amsterdam and Utrecht.
