Israel Galván reveals the ins and outs of his creation. The documentary directed by Maria Reggiani, which is now released on DVD, plots a route through the creative process of the Sevillian bailaor and choreographer, a revolutionary of contemporary flamenco. “This film summons his word, his body, his gestures, his inspirations, his accomplices, his models, his finds. Let’s say it’s snakes and ladders, a stroll down the paths of invention of an alphabet of the body”, the synopsis explains. And he’s the one who guides it, both with his word and with his baile. The testimonies of the artist and of the members of his creative crew (among them, Pedro G. Romero, Fernando Terremoto and Alfredo Lagos) are intertwined with excerpts from shows like ‘La edad de oro’. And added to it is footage of rehearsals and bailes carried out specifically for the camera. The documentary, nearly one hour in length, is accompanied on this DVD with extra contents such as a recording from 1983 and a photo gallery. With the original title ‘Israel Galván, l’accent andalou’, the film has been shown at festivals like Montreal’s Festival du Film sur l’Art, Budapest’s Festival Temps d’Images and Amiens’ Festival International du Film.
