Israel
Galván has always recognized that he feels
at home with risk. And that’s where he places himself
once again to bring to life his new show, inspired by
the texts from ‘The Apocalypse’. Málaga
en Flamenco 2007 hosts the premiere of ‘El final
de este estado de cosas’ (‘The End of This
State of Affairs’) on Saturday, September 29th at
the Teatro Las Lagunas in Mijas. The Sevillian bailaor,
who once again relies on creator Pedro G. Romero as artistic
director, will be accompanied live by guitarist Alfredo
Lagos, cantaores Diego Carrasco, Fernando Terremoto and
Juan José Amador, Bobote on clapping and José
Carrasco on percussion. But he goes beyond flamenco, using
external resources such as butoh dance and contemporary
vocal music.

“If I didn’t keep on telling
a truth of mine, I couldn’t dance any more”.
And the obsession for ‘The Apocalypse’ is
a reality in Israel Galván. According to the program
of ‘El final de este estado de cosas’, which
is to be presented at Málaga en Flamenco 2007,
“the shadow of these revelations always glided over
his shows, studying the most extreme dances”. And
it explains that “it isn’t about performing
the entire book of ‘The Apocalypse’, nor extensively
showing every revelation found in it. It’s about
reading the text, reading it the way a bailaor’s
body can, personifying word for word the verses, the sentences,
the underlined parts he’s most interested in”.
To make the project materialize, he repeats
with Huelva-born creator Pedro G. Romero as artistic director.
Israel Galván takes care of the baile, the choreography
and also the stage directing. Joining the crew is a flamenco
group consisting of guitarist Alfredo
Lagos, cantaores Diego
Carrasco, Fernando
Terremoto and Juan
José Amador, Bobote on clapping and José
Carrasco on percussion. Moreover, the show feeds on other
artistic disciplines. The lineup includes poet David Pielfort;
the trio Orthodox with bass, guitar and drums; a verdiales
gang; and the contemporary vocal music group Proyectoele,
among others. Other elements feed the show, such as the
audiovisual ‘NON, homenaje a Samir Kassir’;
and Japanese butoh dancing, with consulting by Atushi
Takenouchi.
New production
‘El final de este estado de cosas’
