Paco de Lucía, Tomatito
and Gerardo Núñez
put flamenco guitar on the map at the
Festival de Jazz de Madrid
The bill
also features the trio comprising Jorge Pardo, Carles
Benavent and Tino di Geraldo, the duo comprising Chano
Domínguez and Martirio, and other musicians from
flamenco circles
Flamenco-world.com, October 2004
Flamenco is no sleeping partner
of jazz in Spain, it's a driving force behind the music
scene. And that can be seen all too clearly from the
21st Madrid jazz festival, which runs from 15th October
to 20th November at different venues around the Spanish
capital, including the city's jazz clubs. Paco
de Lucía, Tomatito, the Gerardo
Núñez Ensemble with Carmen Cortés,
the Jorge Pardo, Carles Benavent and Tino di Geraldo
trio, Chano Domínguez and Martirio with ‘Acoplados’...
All will add a splash of flamenco to an event which
also features jazz artists who have dabbled in the flamenco
arts, such as Jerry González, Pedro Iturralde,
Perico Sambeat, Javier Colina, Antonio Serrano and even
Bebo Valdés. They'll all be rubbing shoulders
with international jazz giants like McCoy Tyner, Brad
Mehldau and Maceo Parker... the list goes on. This season's
program for the Music and Jazz Club at Colegio Mayor
San Juan Evangelista also includes concerts by cantaores
Enrique
Morente and Miguel Poveda.
