an encounter
to analyze flamenco festivals

With the title ‘Los festivales
flamencos en el mundo: ritos, rotos y retos’, Festival
de Jerez 2007 is setting into motion a pioneer project:
the first technical encounter between flamenco festivals
from all over the world. Directors, producers and distributors
are going to compare their experiences over a three-day
period, which will take place from March 5th to 7th at
the Centro Andaluz de Flamenco, located in Jerez de la
Frontera (Cádiz, Spain).
Festival
de Jerez 2007 sets new aims. Following a decade of
existence, the Jerez festival stretches out a hand to
the other flamenco festivals. In its eleventh edition,
it offers the first encounter ‘Los festivales flamencos
en el mundo: ritos, rotos y retos’, where the current
situation of flamenco festivals will be analyzed. Authorities
from festivals worldwide will attend, as well as producers
and distributors. The encounter will take place from March
5th to 7th at the Centro Andaluz de Flamenco.

The session focuses its attention on
carrying out a panoramic and analytical route of the current
flamenco festivals on the international cultural circuit.
Moreover, aspects are scheduled to be tackled in the program
such as the problems, challenges and contribution to the
outward projection of the cities where they are held,
among other matters.
At the same time, the technical encounter
will serve to get to know and evaluate specific experiences
in the field of spreading flamenco and Spanish dancing
– an artistic aspect which Festival de Jerez influences
-, without forgetting others such as the production and
spreading of flamenco, the strategies to capture new audiences
and the need to promote the sponsorship and patronage
of flamenco activity. Also to be debated is the possibility
of joining forces and creating a steady body of coordination
and collaboration of the flamenco festivals.
