“Festival de Jerez 2012 fosters an encounter and miscegenation, backing the creative activity of artists bent on finding new esthetic and expressive roads for 21st-century flamenco”. That is the statement of intentions of the sixteenth edition of the festival in Jerez, devoted to flamenco dancing and Spanish dance, which will open with ‘Metáfora’ by the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía (Andalusia Flamenco Ballet) and will close with ‘La mar de flamenco’ by Joaquín Grilo. From February 24th to March 10th, 2012, the Teatro Villamarta, Sala Compañía and Palacio de Villavicencio in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz, Spain) are to offer a show schedule with nearly thirty performances. ‘La curva’ by Israel Galván, ‘Utopía’ by María Pagés, ‘Vinática’ by Rocío Molina, ‘Tauro’ by Manuel Liñán and ‘De flamencas’ by Marco Flores are some of the dance shows which will be seen on the main stage.

Guitar and cante also have a place reserved for them, with shows like ‘Made in Jerez’ by Gerardo Núñez, ‘Ensayo Flamenco 2012’ by Carmen Linares, ‘12 cuerdas’ by Alfredo Lagos and Dani de Morón as well as ‘Colores del fuego’ by Antonio Rey, plus recitals by cantaores such as Rafael de Utrera and Pedro el Granaíno, among others. The bill also revives shows already seen in previous editions like ‘¡Viva Jerez!’ - now with La Macanita and Jesús Méndez as guest artists - and ‘Pastora’ by Pastora Galván. The live flamenco is complemented by an offer of flamenco dancing courses with over one thousand places.
