Seville’s Flamenco Thursdays 2007/2008. Full program

Seville reveals its flamenco agenda. The first lineup to be announced is that of the Jueves Flamencos (Flamenco Thursdays) series. During the 2007/2008 series, the Sala Joaquín Turina at Centro Cultural Cajasol is scheduled to offer a total of 25 concerts by reputed maestros and young talents of the jondo art. This edition stars guitar, which starts things off with ‘Iberia’ by Cañizares. Traditional baile, classical cante, flamenco jazz and young talents alternate on the bill, which runs from October 11th, 2007 to May 29th, 2008.

The Jueves Flamencos kick off the 2007/2008 edition with Cañizares, a reference to guitar which will continue with performances by Niño Josele, José Antonio Rodríguez, Pedro Sierra and Paco Cepero, among others. On baile, the program picks traditional maestros like Manuela Carrasco and Toni el Pelao & La Uchi. The section dedicated to jondo dancing is completed with figures such as Juana Amaya, María Pagés and Antonio Canales, as well as new talents of the likes of Pastora Galván and Rocío Molina.

The cante comes from veteran artists such as El Pele, José Menese, Manuel de Paula and Calixto Sánchez, also making way for young voices such as that of Rafael de Utrera and Argentina. The program moreover includes a look at flamenco jazz with ‘Vientos flamencos’ by Jorge Pardo, who will bring top-notch guests like Tomasito and Juan Diego. And at Christmas, the now traditional ‘Zambomba jerezana’. There are a total of 25 concerts over the next eight months which Seville’s Centro Cultural Cajasol will dedicate to flamenco each Thursday. And it will be in all of its variants and styles.
