Seven years of silence have gone
by since ‘La luna de Tomasa’. And La
Macanita breaks it with a sixth solo album on which
she once again has Ricardo Pachón as producer. ‘Solo
por eso’ includes new tracks por bulerías,
soleá, tangos and seguiriyas, some of which are composed
by Fernando Terremoto, besides versions of ‘Cai’
by Alejandro Sanz and the zambra ‘Maldigo tus ojos
verdes’ by La Paquera. The Jerez-born cantaora’s
personal voice is backed by musicians such as guitarists
Manuel Parrilla and Diego del Morao, but other instruments
also appear like bass, piano and accordion.

La Macanita returns with ‘Solo por
eso’. The album includes a varied repertoire of songs
to the beat of different flamenco styles. Standing out is
the soleá por bulerías ‘Cobre viejo’,
a previously unreleased work by poet Carlos Lencero dedicated
to the now historic cantaor Chocolate.
Two scores are also contributed by fellow cantaor Fernando
Terremoto; specifically, the bulerías ‘Volver
a verte’ and the tangos ‘Déjame volar’.
Moreover, there is room for two versions
of very different styles. One is from this time, that of
the pop song ‘Cai’ by singer Alejandro Sanz.
And the other, a reference to the past and her aunt Francisca
Méndez ‘La
Paquera’, the zambra ‘Maldigo tus ojos verdes’.
The album’s contents are rounded off with the traditional
cantes ‘De la raíz del olivo’ por soleá
and ‘Venta el Noguero’ por seguiriyas.
The artist is flanked by the Jerez guitars
of Manuel Parrilla and Diego del Morao. And the group of
instrumentalists is joined with a more current air by guitarists
Charly Cepeda and Andrés el Pájaro, bass player
Manolo Nieto, drummer Jimmy González and Álvaro
Gandul playing the piano, harmonica and accordion. As on
her outstanding album ‘Jerez-Xères-Sherry’,
she once again has Ricardo Pachón as producer, whose
curriculum possesses now mythical albums such as ‘La
leyenda del tiempo’ by Camarón.
