2007 Málaga en Flamenco Festival. Complete program

With the number seven as its leitmotiv, Málaga en Flamenco has defined the bill of its second edition. Some fifty shows are going to circulate throughout the territory of Málaga from August 25th to September 30th, 2007, split up into series with seven performances. The main event is ‘Su homenaje’, a batch of concerts dedicated to Paco de Lucía, which closes with a concert by the maestro at the La Malagueta Bullring. Young talents, new productions, tributes to veterans, concerts at natural stages... help shape up the program, which will be highlighted by artists such as Enrique Morente, Arcángel, Cañizares and Israel Galván.

A total of 51 shows will make up the program of Málaga en Flamenco 2007 from August 25th to September 30th, with seven series of seven shows each, which will be prologued by an initiation ceremony on July 7th at Dolmen de Menga (Antequera). The first series, entitled ‘Sólo apto para menores’ (‘For Minors Only’), will make room for the generation of artists born beginning in 1980, among which are Estrella Morente and Pastora Galván. The series ‘Son de Málaga’, which will consist exclusively of artists from Málaga, includes unique shows such as the tribute to La Repompa; and ‘Memoriales’, dedicated to the most experienced veterans.

Included within the series ‘Siete Caracolas’ is the opening show in Vélez-Málaga on August 25th, with Enrique Morente paying tribute to Juan Breva and Picasso, besides the premiere of ‘Zambra 5.1’ by Arcángel and the revival of ‘Las calles de Cádiz’ by La Argentinita, among other shows. The fourth series is the result of the projects contest ‘Siete Producciones Nuevas’, with El Pele, Antonio el Pipa and Israel Galván as some of the stars. The new albums will be taken care of in the series ‘Siete discos cosecha 2007’, which includes the presentation of ‘La voz del agua’ by Marina Heredia and ‘Suite Iberia’ by Cañizares.

Another feature on the bill is the series ‘Siete maravillas’, which takes advantage of seven unique venues in the province. Rocío Molina will dance amidst the rocks of El Torcal in Antequera, the Ronda Bullring will welcome a tribute to Antonio and Gerardo Núñez Trio will perform in the Caves of Nerja. The icing on the cake is to be provided by ‘Su Homenaje’, a series which will pay tribute to Paco de Lucía. The first six concerts will be taken care of by other musicians like Tomatito, Jorge Pardo and Manolo Sanlúcar, among others. The last one, scheduled for September 22nd, will star the tributee himself, with a concert at the La Malagueta Bullring. The bill of the Málaga festival is completed by different series of related activities. Courses on flamenco subject matter for instructors and pupils, exhibits of several disciplines and other courses are all scheduled by Taller Flamenco.
