Málaga
en Flamenco 2007. Schedule of performances
Philosopher María Zambrano,
painter Pablo Picasso and cantaor Juan Breva, three historic
figures from Málaga, are going to inspire Enrique
Morente in the inauguration of the festival Málaga
en Flamenco 2007. The concert, which is part of the series
‘Siete caracolas’, will take place on Saturday,
August 25th in the town of Vélez-Málaga.
The cante of the Granada-born artist will kick off the
second edition of this biennial festival, which is to
be held until September 30th throughout the province of
Málaga. Paco de Lucía, Manolo Sanlúcar,
Cañizares, Arcángel, Israel Galván,
Mayte Martín and Jorge Pardo are just a few of
the artists on the bill.
‘De Juan Breva a María Zambrano’
is the title of the concert which Enrique Morente is to
inaugurate Málaga en Flamenco 2007 with. He is
scheduled to follow a route through the work of a handful
of artistic figures linked to Málaga, but from
his viewpoint as a cantaor. He had already approached
the philosopher born in Vélez-Malaga on his album
‘Morente sueña La Alhambra’ with the
song Generalife. For Picasso he is preparing a record
with music based on the painter’s texts which the
Picasso Museum of Paris assigned to him. And the relation
to Juan
Breva comes from the origins. He will add excerpts
from his usual repertoire to it all, with the verdiales
group Los Romanes in the background.

The show, which will take place at Plaza
de la Constitución in Vélez-Málaga,
also opens one of the seven series scheduled in the program,
‘Siete caracolas’. Said bill includes shows
such as ‘Zambra 5.1’ by Arcángel
(September 26th, Teatro de Las Lagunas in Mijas), ‘Cádiz’
by El Junco (September 25th, Teatro Cervantes in Málaga)
and ‘Flamenco para la Traviata’ by La Cuadra
de Salvador Távora (September 29th, Teatro Cánovas
in Málaga).
