Marina
Heredia launches her second record. ‘La voz del
agua’ is to be released on February 20th, a self-produced
album summarizing the career of the Granada-born cantaora,
following up poems by writers such as Bergamín and
Alberti. It includes a varied flamenco repertoire, though
it also pursues other genres like the copla, bolero and
tango. The cante is accompanied by José Quevedo and
Luis Mariano on guitar, Paquito González on percussions,
Fidel Cordero on piano and Alexis Lefèvre on violin,
plus the special collaboration of her father, cantaor Jaime
el Parrón. The album, which appears five years after
her début with ‘Me duele, me duele’,
premieres on February 26th and 27th at Granada’s Teatro
Isabel la Católica.

“Marina is here now, with plenty
of time ahead. She’s come to light the way for us,
so that we once again believe in romanticism, rely on quality,
enjoy pure and simple craftsmanship. And to remind us of
the strength and shining light of the best flamenco”.
Journalist Miguel Mora’s words were a prelude to the
contents of ‘La voz del agua’.
Marina Heredia’s second album consists
of a mixture of musicalized poems by poets such as Bergamín,
Alberti, Manuel Benítez Carrasco and some folk songs.
Upon taking them to flamenco, they take on the shape of
soleares, seguiriyas, and of course, tangos del Sacromonte.
But the Granada-born cantaora also displays her ability
to go beyond that and take a stab at coplas, boleros and
even tangos, but Argentinean ones. And that’s precisely
the first single which will be heard; ‘El tango de
las madres locas’. Other suggestive titles in the
new repertoire include ‘Balada del que nunca fue a
Granada’, ‘Mil vidas’ and ‘La gran
faena’.
Premiere in Granada
Marina Heredia’s voice is embellished
by José
Quevedo and Luis Mariano on guitar, Paquito González
on percussion, Fidel Cordero on piano, Alexis Lefèvre
on violin, Carlos Grilo and Luis Cantarote on clapping,
plus the special collaboration of her father, cantaor Jaime
el Parrón. Also joining them live will be bailaor
Manuel Liñán and bailaora Jara Heredia. And
that will happen on February 26th and 27th, when the record
premieres at Granada’s Teatro Isabel la Católica.
Since she released her début album
‘Me duele, me duele’ five years ago, Marina
Heredia has grown in experience at the top flamenco stages.
Just in the last year, she has toured dozens of Andalusian
festivals and series such as Seville’s Flamenco Thursdays
and Flamenco Comes from the South, as well as taking part
in the inauguration of Bienal de Sevilla 2006 and appearing
in several TV specials.
