Málaga en Flamenco 2007
seeks to establish itself as a showcase of new offerings.
And one of these first opportunities will be offered to
Fuensanta
la Moneta. The bailaora from Granada will make
her début on 18th September at Mijas's Teatro Las
Lagunas with ‘De entre la luna y los hombres’.
The show, directed by Hansel Cereza, is based on the poems
of Teresa Gómez. Guitarist Miguel Iglesias composes
the music, Eva Durán provides the vocals and Javier
Latorre offers choreographic support.

Ever since the 'Desplante’ award
brought her into the public eye, Fuensanta la Moneta has
hardly had a moment away from the stage. And the flamenco
circuit hasn't lost its appetite for her solo dance or
her performances as part of companies. Now she goes one
step further and, taking advantage of the festival Málaga
en Flamenco 2007, will perform her first ever show.
‘De entre la luna y los hombres’,
which opens on 18th September at Teatro Las Lagunas in
Mijas, has Hansel Cereza as stage director, who worked
on previous flamenco projects with artists such as Eva
Yerbabuena. The project is based on verses by Granada-born
poet Teresa Gómez and, according to the bailaora,
“expresses truly feminine feelings with texts in
the first person, which sometimes seem drawn from my own
conscience.”
La Moneta will be on stage throughout,
performing choreographed pieces drawn from between men
and the moon, designed with the help of Javier
Latorre, who “is a teacher of mine and who I
trust.” Malagueñas and abandolao, guajira,
farruca, soleá and seguiriya are some of the palos
that she plans to perform. And each of them will be given
“a different personality, depending on the wardrobe
created by the Quetezurzan workshop.” La Farruca,
for example, is performed in a tuxedo and the seguiriya
with a bata de cola dress. And the fact is, as the artist
observes, “each outfit lends itself to a situation,
to a time and to a different woman, but that coexist within
the same person.” The artistic line-up is rounded
off with guitarist Miguel Iglesias, composer of the music
for the show, and with Malaga-born cantaora Eva Durán,
among other artists.
Fellow artists such as Arcángel,
Encarna Anillo, Antonio el Pipa and Israel Galván
also première at Málaga en Flamenco 2007,
which runs from 25th August to 30th September at different
points around the province of Malaga.
