Nobody suspected it while it was being recorded, but the documentary‘Morente’ has turned out to contain the Granada-born artist’s sung last will and testament. The film, directed by Emilio Ruiz Barrachina, is released on DVD and Blu-ray one year after the artist’s sudden death. The movie contains live performances and recordings of traditional cantes and created ones on stages such as the Liceu in Barcelona, in a concert which was the inauguration of the 2010 Catalunya Arte Flamenco Series; the Bañuelo in Granada, singing with his children Estrella, Soleá and Kiki; the recording studio, where he went together with pianist Federico Lechner to perform Antonio Vega’s song ‘Ángel caído’; and in the hall where Picasso’s ‘Guernica’ is on exhibit at the Reina Sofía Museum. The feature film, whose soundtrack is also available on disc-book, includes traditional cantes like soleares, seguiriyas and malagueñas, and some of his more personal creations such as ‘Guern-Irak’ from his last studio album ‘Pablo de Málaga’ as well as ‘Los saeteros’ from the disc ‘Lorca’. The cantaor’s revolutionary voice is accompanied by his own words and those of his most intimate surroundings like his daughter, cantaora Estrella Morente and his wife, bailaora Aurora Carbonell.
