The Nîmes Festival continues
to lay its stakes on quality. ‘Flamenco in January
2005’ has cantaores La
Susi and El Torta, the shows ‘Chamber Flamenco’
by Mayte Martín and Belén Maya, and ‘Gestures
of a Woman’ by Mercedes
Ruiz in its fifth edition. Moreover, it offers its stage
to young talents such as the winners of the 2004 Córdoba
Contest - Gabriel Expósito, La Tremendita and Soraya
Clavijo -, the winner of the La Unión Bordón
Minero, Javier Conde, and cantaor Antonio Ortega Jr. The
event opens with a production by the Pepe Linares Flamenco
Group, inspired by Federico García Lorca's ‘El
Romancero Gitano’. Already having appeared at this
consolidated French flamenco event are artists of the likes
of Vicente Amigo, Remedios Amaya, Antonio Canales and Diego
el Cigala.
