Contrabassist Pablo Martín captures the influence
of flamenco on his first album, ‘Doméstica’

The member of the Gerardo Núñez Trio premieres Bost, his own record label which is
already producing the début album of guitarist José Manuel León

Following many international tours as a member of the Gerardo Núñez Trio, contrabassist Pablo Martín records his first solo album. ‘Doméstica’ reveals glimpses of, among many other musical influences, the flamenco side of this musician trained in classical music in Vienna. Guitarist José Manuel León, percussionists Cepillo, Paquito González and Guillermo McGill, harmonica player Antonio Serrano... are a few of the collaborators on this album recorded at a home studio. With this album, Pablo Martín premieres his record label Bost, which is currently producing José Manuel León's début album.

Between classical music, world music, flamenco and the most absolute creative freedom, Pablo Martín has put together his first musical work. ‘Doméstica’ is an album recorded at a home studio which the contrabassist himself defines as “an exercise in imagination with which I get initiated in the process of understanding something that's intrigued me since I was little: the creation of a record, from when an idea comes up to when you hold the record in your hands”.

And he's taken care of all the steps. Over the last few months, musicians close to flamenco such as guitarist José Manuel León, percussionists Cepillo, Paquito González and Guillermo McGill, and harmonica player Antonio Serrano have come over to his attic in Madrid... even with collaboration on arrangements by Enric Palomar, with whom Miguel Poveda recorded ‘Rafael Alberti. Poemas del exilio’.

He offers ten songs in all, with ‘Bulería doméstica’ especially aimed at the more flamenco crowd. Like all the compositions on the album, it has its story. The phone rings and... “José Manuel, come over and record for a while... hey, Cepillo, we're recording here... man, pop in and play something... Yaca, look, don't you feel like sticking a Rhodes in a tune... there... whatever comes out”.

With ‘Doméstica’, Pablo Martín inaugurates his own record label. Bost's next project will be the first solo album by José Manuel León. The Algeciras-born guitarist is shaping up as one of the most solid talents of flamenco toque, as he already showed on the collective record ‘Gerardo Núñez presenta. La nueva escuela de la guitarra flamenca’ (‘Gerardo Núñez Presents. The New School of Flamenco Guitar’).
