Paco Peña tours the United States and Canada with the flamenco show ‘A Compás!’

Bailaores Ángel Muñoz, Ramón Martínez and Charo Espino accompany the Córdoba-born guitarist on the tour

Flamenco-world.com, September 2009

Just a few weeks after premiering ‘Flamenco sin Fronteras’ at Sadler’s Wells in London, the Paco Peña Company sets out on a new tour around the United States and Canada. From September 30th to October 29th, 2009, the veteran Córdoba-born guitarist presents ‘A Compás!’ at nearly twenty stages in North America. And he has himself accompanied on such an intense tour by bailaores Ángel Muñoz, Ramón Martínez and Charo Espino, guitarists Paco Arriaga and Rafael Montilla, cantaores Miguel Ortega and Inmaculada Rivero, and percussionist Nacho López. The show tries to emphasize the differences between flamenco’s different rhythms and show how the solo guitarist, guitarist in a group and the bailaores both solo and in a group express themselves in each of them. The repertoire is highlighted by alboreá, caña, martinete, cantiñas, the face-off between guitar and castanets, as well as the pieces ‘Suite, Guitarra y Danza’ and ‘Ritmo nuevo’.
