"Having a home has helped strengthen
the company's stability". María Pagés weighs up as more than
positive the project that led her to become a resident company at The Torrelodones
Theater. And, to celebrate, she will perform 'El Perro Andaluz' on May 1st, 2nd
and 3rd, 2003 on the stages that have materialized similar initiatives in the
province of Madrid: Las Rozas, Coslada and Torrelodones.

Four years have already passed since Torrelodones
City Council proposed that María Pagés should be the resident company
at the Boulevard Theater, with the aim of "introducing dance in these magnificent
facilities". The agreement, according to the Sevillian bailaora and choreographer,
brought the company "financial aid, the theater, rehearsal rooms, an office
and storage; and, in exchange, we had to have an influence on the promotion of
dance in the town, present our creations, hold open rehearsals and other activities
related to the spreading of dance, especially that which is aimed at children".
And she confesses that she didn't think twice about it. She signed a two-year
contract which was later extended for an equal period.
In this time, the María Pagés
Company has been able to see for itself that "having a home has helped strengthen
the company's stability". Proof of that is, according to the bailaora, that
"the peace of mind that having a place and resources provides has redounded
positively in the company's creative work". And she adds that "vanished
are the ghosts of looking for a place to rehearse in a hurry before premiering
at a festival, of renting theaters in a hurry...".
Setting a precedent
The satisfaction of María Pagés,
the 2002 National Dance Prize winner, is double, since her project has set a precedent.
"The Community of Madrid has understood that it was a pioneer project which,
since it offered artistic results, could work at other theaters and with other
companies, as demonstrated by the agreements already signed with Ibérica
de Danza in Las Rozas, Larumbe in Coslada and Antonio Márquez in Villaviciosa
de Odón".
With the support of Madrid's Administration,
the María Pagés Company, Ibérica de Danza and Larumbe are
going to display their creations on May 1st, 2nd and 3rd at the theaters in Las
Rozas, Coslada and Torrelodones, respectively. María Pagés, as a
sample of the company's work in recent years, is going to present 'El Perro Andaluz'
on the three stages.
