‘Sevilla’ comes to
Madrid. Bailaora María
Pagés makes a stop at the Teatro de la Zarzuela
in the Spanish capital from October 2nd to 13th, 2007.
The company will perform its latest show, inspired by
the city of La Giralda. With over twenty artists up on
stage - between bailaores, guitarists, cantaores and other
instrumentalists -, the bailaora recreates her sensations
of the city she was born in and of the flamenco she experienced
there. After that, the company is scheduled to perform
in countries such as Singapore, Morocco and Italy.

Since its premiere at Orchand Hall in
Tokyo in May of last year, ‘Sevilla’ has traveled
halfway around the world. But it had to make a stop in
Madrid. María Pagés puts on her latest show
from October 2nd to 13th, 2007 at the Teatro de la Zarzuela
in the Spanish capital, opening the dance program of this
emblematic auditorium.
The show, as the Sevillian bailaora and
choreographer explains, highlights the “contrasts
of Seville, life and flamenco”. And it does so by
linking choreographies, bailes and music which are performed
on stage by over twenty artists. Although there is recorded
music by authors as varied as Shostakovich, Sarasate,
Gardel and Bizet, there are also original scores designed
and performed by guitarists José Carrillo ‘Fyty’
and Rubén Lebaniegos, accompanied by cello, percussion
and cante. Standing out visually is the lighting by Dominique
You and José María Sánchez, as well
as the stage design and wardrobe by Christian Olivares.
Although the Teatro de la Zarzuela’s
program is eminently lyrical, it opens its doors to flamenco
from time to time. In the past edition, Eva
Yerbabuena was the one in charge of inaugurating,
with the premiere of the show ‘El huso de la memoria’,
the season commemorating the 150th anniversary of the
historic Madrilenian theater. Following its stay in the
Spanish capital, the María Pagés Company
is scheduled to continue its tour with performances in
countries such as Singapore, Morocco and Italy, among
others.
