A new echo joins the flamenco scene...
with endorsements. The young Huelva-born cantaor Pitingo
launches his début album with the backing of the
Habichuela family. Juan Habichuela, Pepe Habichuela, El
Camborio and Antonio Carmona accompany the cantaor related
to the Pavón family on this, his first record. The
album ‘Pitingo con Habichuelas’ comes out on
June 5th, 2006.

The record opens with a song por ‘soulerías’
(something like “flamenco soul”) entitled ‘Familia
Habichuela’, in which Juan Habichuela, Pepe
Habichuela and El Camborio come together on guitars,
plus Antonio Carmona on percussions. Following this spirited
start, it continues with alegrías, granaínas
and a song por bulerías in which Javier Barón’s
feet can be heard. Soleares, fandangos caracoleros, tangos,
Jerez seguiriyas and a cross between the Mellizo malagueña
and pasodoble complete a repertoire closing with a fiesta
por tangos.
Enrique Morente himself describes Pitingo’s
performance as “formidable” on this album, recorded
between December 2005 and March 2006 at Sonoland Studios
in Madrid and at La
Bodega de Jerez. The production has been taken care
of by José Manuel Gamboa, who has been in charge
of recent flamenco albums like ‘Un ramito de locura’
by Carmen Linares.
