Flamenco once again demonstrates
its camaraderie. Over ten cantaores will accompany Almería-born
cantaor Alfonso
Salmerón in a tribute celebrating his
fifty years in flamenco on January 22nd, 2010 at the Colegio
Mayor San Juan Evangelista in Madrid. Cantaores such as
José Mercé, Vicente Soto, Cancanilla, Gabriel
Moreno, Arcángel, Mayte Martín, El Yunque
and María José Pérez, among others,
and guitarists like Serranito and José María
Molero have already been announced on the bill together
with the tributee himself. Alfonso Salmerón (Almería
1944) became consolidated professionally at the tablaos
in Madrid and reached the peak of his career in the ’80s,
when he won an award at Córdoba’s National
Contest and took part in the opera ‘Carmen’
together with José Carreras and Karajan in Vienna.
In his career, accompaniment for the baile of figures such
as Matilde Coral, Antonio and Mario Maya is combined with
solo recitals at festivals on Spain’s flamenco circuit.
At the same time as the tribute, Salmerón releases
the album ‘50 años de flamenco’, with
Rafael Andújar on guitar.
