Today’s flamenco premieres a voice and style. Sandra Carrasco releases her début album, published by the label Blue Note Flamenco and produced by Javier Limón. On this recording, the Huelva-born cantaora has the flamenco backing of Pepe Habichuela and Josemi Carmona. And she is also accompanied by musicians from other parts of the world like Israeli double bass player Avishai Cohen, Moroccan violinist Faiçal Kourrich, Cuban pianist Iván ‘Melón’ Lewis and young performers from Boston’s Berklee School of Music. “The record has some very deep jondo roots”, the artist explains. And she adds that it is “an encounter of Middle East, Mediterranean, Spanish and flamenco cultures”. ‘Solilla’, ‘Calle del Olivar’, ‘Arde corazón’, ‘Mírame’ and ‘Fandangos con el tío Pepe’ are some of the twelve songs on the album, recorded at studios in Madrid, Tel Aviv and Paris. At the same time as the cantaora carries out the acoustic presentation of the disc around Spain, she will take part in the European tour of ‘Traveller. Un viaje raga flamenco’ by Anoushka Shankar.
