Spain celebrated its official day
in Shanghai with flamenco dancing and Spanish guitar. Throughout
the day of August 30th, 2010, the Spanish pavilion organized
a program of events which was opened at the Expo Center’s
Green Hall by classical guitarist José María
Gallardo with the concert ‘Al aire español’,
with pieces by Gaspar Sanz, Manuel de Falla, Joaquín
Rodrigo and his own. Then in the evening at Red Hall the
company Nuevo
Ballet Español, directed by dancers Ángel
Rojas and Carlos Rodríguez, performed its show ‘Sangre
flamenca’. The activities continue throughout the
week, among them, the performance of the well-known version
of ‘Carmen’ by the Antonio
Gades Company, scheduled for Saturday, September 4th
in the main hall of the Chinese auditorium. Pau Gasol’s
basketball, avant-garde gastronomy, business encounters,
Isabel Coixet’s films, Pep Bou’s bubbles and
the Soccer World Cup Trophy are also part of this special
agenda at the Spanish pavilion, dubbed the “Basket”,
