Over twelve hundred flamenco costumes
will be displayed at the fifteenth edition of the International
Flamenco Fashion Show (Simof), which is to be held in Seville
from January 29th to February 1st, 2009. They all belong
to new collections by over thirty designers, once again
striving to renew the traditional dress with ruffles. Although
most of the dresses focus on Seville’s April Fair,
the show never loses its connection with the stages and
flamenco. Marina
Heredia will model for Pilar Vera and Arcángel
will sing in Sergio Vidal’s parade. Artists such as
Diana Navarro, Alicia Gil, El Yunke, Macarena Giráldez
and Joana Jiménez will also take part in the show.

The last weekend in January, Seville’s
Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos (Fibes) once again hosts
the world’s only flamenco fashion show. Like every
season, the great firms and designers are ready to present
the collections which will sparkle this year at Seville’s
April Fair and at many others. Moreover, it confirms itself
as a meeting point for designers, models, professionals
and business people.
Simof 2009, organized by Fibes and the
fashion agency Doble Erre, is once again the stage for over
90 exhibiting firms, among which Filigrana
castanets and Begoña
Cervera shoes stand out, sold exclusively on the Internet
at Flamenco-world.com. 28 professional parades will be held
in total with 32 designers. It will be joined by the Novel
Designers Contest, which opens the show on Thursday, January
29th with eleven young talents of flamenco fashion design.
Then in the afternoon, the professional parades will kick
off, starring model Laura Sánchez. Vicky Martín
Berrocal presents the collection ‘Vivir’; Margarita
Freire, the collection ‘Parte de mí’,
with the performance of Sevillian cantaora Alicia
Gil; and Lina, with the collection ‘…y al
jardín de la alegría’, among others.
On Friday the 30th, the catwalks will be
filled with flamenco artists. Melisa Lozano presents the
collection ‘Un mar de coplas’ with singer Diana
Navarro; Mari Carmen Cruz presents ‘Olor a primavera’
with Vicente Bernal on cante and Alba Romero on baile; designer
Loli Vera will have Patricia García on cante; and
Sergio Vidal will have Huelva-born cantaor Arcángel
live. With Elisabeth Reyes as a guest model that day, the
designs of El Ajolí, Cristo Báñez and
Aurora Gaviño, among others, will be premiered.
