Over twelve hundred flamenco costumes will be displayed at the fifteenth edition of the International Flamenco Fashion Show (Simof), which is to be held in Seville from January 29th to February 1st, 2009. They all belong to new collections by over thirty designers, once again striving to renew the traditional dress with ruffles. Although most of the dresses focus on Seville’s April Fair, the show never loses its connection with the stages and flamenco. Marina Heredia will model for Pilar Vera and Arcángel will sing in Sergio Vidal’s parade. Artists such as Diana Navarro, Alicia Gil, El Yunke, Macarena Giráldez and Joana Jiménez will also take part in the show.

The last weekend in January, Seville’s Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos (Fibes) once again hosts the world’s only flamenco fashion show. Like every season, the great firms and designers are ready to present the collections which will sparkle this year at Seville’s April Fair and at many others. Moreover, it confirms itself as a meeting point for designers, models, professionals and business people.

Simof 2009, organized by Fibes and the fashion agency Doble Erre, is once again the stage for over 90 exhibiting firms, among which Filigrana castanets and Begoña Cervera shoes stand out, sold exclusively on the Internet at Flamenco-world.com. 28 professional parades will be held in total with 32 designers. It will be joined by the Novel Designers Contest, which opens the show on Thursday, January 29th with eleven young talents of flamenco fashion design. Then in the afternoon, the professional parades will kick off, starring model Laura Sánchez. Vicky Martín Berrocal presents the collection ‘Vivir’; Margarita Freire, the collection ‘Parte de mí’, with the performance of Sevillian cantaora Alicia Gil; and Lina, with the collection ‘…y al jardín de la alegría’, among others.

On Friday the 30th, the catwalks will be filled with flamenco artists. Melisa Lozano presents the collection ‘Un mar de coplas’ with singer Diana Navarro; Mari Carmen Cruz presents ‘Olor a primavera’ with Vicente Bernal on cante and Alba Romero on baile; designer Loli Vera will have Patricia García on cante; and Sergio Vidal will have Huelva-born cantaor Arcángel live. With Elisabeth Reyes as a guest model that day, the designs of El Ajolí, Cristo Báñez and Aurora Gaviño, among others, will be premiered.

Granada-born cantaora Marina Heredia and Sevillian singer Alba Molina will return on Saturday the 31st to show off models by Ángeles Verano on the catwalk, this year together with copla singer Sara de la Cruz, with the collection ‘A tu vera’. That day, the collections are to be presented by Pitusa Gasul, ‘Gitanas de fuego’ by Córdoba-born Juana Martín, ‘¡Quién dijo pena!’ by Pilar Vera, ‘A mi manera’ by Nuevo Montecarlo and ‘Jarén’ by Carmen Jarén, with Marisa Jara as guest model.

Live flamenco will also be present on the closing day, since Creaciones Mari Cruz and Peris Complementos present the collection ‘Lola y Caracol’ with El Yunke, Macarena Giráldez and Enrique Garfia as guest artists. Moreover, there is collaboration by bailaora Lalo Tejada in the parade by Sevillanía, which presents ‘Paseando por Sevilla’. The day’s program is completed with the parades ‘Aire de Lola’ by Sara Benítez, ‘Te reto a un duelo’ by Rosalía Zahíno and Encarna Solá, ‘Lola, Lolita, Lola’ by Paco Prieto, ‘Mirabrás’ by Carmen de la Torre and ‘Bajo el sol de las arenas’ by Carmen Vega, among others. The guest models are María José Suárez and Eva González, on a day when the prize for best model in this edition of the show is scheduled to be awarded.
