Taller Flamenco increases its commitment
to teaching, to coincide with Seville's 2004 Biennial Festival.
The Seville-based school, situated in the heart of the barrio
de La Alameda, offers four workshops during September and
October, with leading names from the flamenco dance scene,
aimed at advanced level students. Ángeles
Gabaldón, Rafaela Carrasco, Pastora Galván
and Belén Maya will make up the elite teaching staff.
The academy will also organize special courses entitled
‘Estaciones Flamencas’, ‘Cursos con Mucho
Arte’ and ‘Combinaciones de Arte’.
Ángeles Gabaldón, the bailaora
sevillana who made her solo début with ‘Inmigración’,
will give the first of the workshops. Her course, which
focuses on flamenco dance 'por seguiriyas', will run from
13th to 17th September 2004. Rafaela
Carrasco takes the baton a few days later with a tarantos
course. The bailaora from Seville, whose first creation
‘La música del cuerpo’ received acclaim
at the Certamen Coreográfico de Madrid, gives her
classes from 20th to 24th September. The next workshop will
study tangos, under the watchful eye of Pastora
Galván. The bailaora, who'll perform alongside
Israel Galván at the 2004 Festival de Alburquerque,
will give this course between 27th September and 1st October.
It's Belén
Maya's job to round off this series of high-level dance
workshops. And she'll do so with a dance class 'por alegrías',
scheduled to run from 4th to 8th October.

Other flamenco courses
Besides the workshops scheduled to coincide
with the 2004 Festival Bienal de Sevilla, Taller Flamenco
offers a wide range of special courses, both in flamenco
and in Spanish, and catering for all levels of ability.
First there's the classes entitled ‘¡Cursos
con mucho arte!’ whose aim is to bring together students
of all levels and from all over the world between 30th August
and 10th September 2004, and between 13th and 24th September,
to study flamenco dance forms and technique as they enjoy
the offerings at the Bienal.
Then, in November (from 1st to 12th and
from 15th to 26th) there'll be a new edition of ‘Combinaciones
de arte’, combining classes in baile flamenco, guitar
or technique with Spanish language classes. In addition,
‘Estaciones flamencas’ – flamenco seasons
- promises three sets of courses each two weeks in length,
to coincide with winter (from 1st to 12th March), spring
(from 7th to 18th June) and summer (from 2nd to 13th August).
The subject material will be Spanish; flamenco dance and
technique; and compás and palmas.
