Flamenco-world.com, July 2003
Italy is beginning
to focus its flamenco offer. Besides artists such as Joaquín
Cortés and María Pagés touring the country periodically,
baile, cante and toque festivals are also being established.
That is the case of Flamenca, a festival to be held in Turin
from July 21st to 23rd, 2003. Cristina Hoyos, Eva Yerbabuena
and Miguel Poveda are the pillars holding up the bill.
The first date at Turin's Cortile di Palazzo
Reale is scheduled for Monday, July 21st, where the
Cristina
Hoyos Ballet will perform, the company
of the veteran bailaora formerly Antonio Gades' dance partner.
The following day presents a collective program.
The first part is cornered by cantaor Miguel Poveda and
guitarist Chicuelo, both bases of young Catalan flamenco.
The second part, in the style of a traditional festival,
will have Chicuelo, Bolita and Manuel Pérez on guitar; Miguel
Poveda, Inmaculada Rivero and Londro on cante; and Ángel
Atienza, Hiniesta Cortés and Manuel Betanzos on baile. The
triple Italian series concludes with the company of Eva
Yerbabuena, the Granada-born bailaora and
choreographer, putting on the finishing touch.
