Flamenco lays stakes on the collective.
Following many seasons accompanying first-rate flamenco
artists, five instrumentalists join forces in the project
Ultra High Flamenco (UHF). Contrabass player Pablo Martín,
guitarist José
Quevedo ‘Bolita’, violinist Alexis Lefèvre,
and percussionists Ángel Sánchez ‘Cepillo’
and Paquito González have blended their music,
and after several shows, have recorded the album ‘Ultra
High Flamenco’. To maintain the energy from the
stage, they’ve done it live at a studio in the flamenco
land of Morón de la Frontera.

‘Ultra High Flamenco (UHF)’
consists of songs composed by the members of the band,
individually or together. The album opens with ‘Carretera
del soniquete’, a song by UHF and José Quevedo
‘Bolita’ which is moreover included in a video
recorded at Cuenca’s Festival Encuentros 2007. The
Jerez-born guitarist, the usual accompanist of artists
such as Marina Heredia, is also the author of ‘Teviadeciunacoza’,
‘Taxdirt’ and ‘Sol natural’.
Violinist Alexis
Lefèvre, who usually accompanies bailaor Javier
Barón, contributes ‘Calle Levíes 18’
and ‘Alexiada’. Contrabass player Pablo
Martín, who released his first solo album ‘Doméstica’
last year, is the author of ‘Alter-Ego’, and
together with Bolita, of ‘Bulería de los
10 huevos’. The last song, ‘Se masca la tragedia’,
is the work of the band’s two percussionists, Sanlúcar-born
Ángel Sánchez ‘Cepillo’
and Paquito González.
The album was recorded last August live
at the studio in the Seville-area town of Morón
de la Frontera. Before capturing the nine songs which
make up the record, UHF has performed at festivals such
as Festival
Flamenco Ciutat Vella 2007, the 10th Helsinki Flamenco
Festival and Cuenca’s Festival Encuentros 2007.
The release of the instrumental flamenco group’s
first album is scheduled for November 28th, when it will
be presented with a concert at Sala Galileo-Galilei in
Madrid.
