Flamenco sets out once more to
win over the North American audience. In its sixth edition,
Flamenco Festival USA 2006 is to gather over one hundred
artists, standing out among which are guitarist Vicente
Amigo, bailaor Antonio el Pipa, the companies Ballet
Flamenco de Andalucía and Nuevo Ballet Español,
cantaora Esperanza Fernández, the group Son de la
Frontera and the members of Gala de Andalucía, among
others, Merche Esmeralda, Manolo Marín, Rafael Campallo
and Javier Barón.
The program seeks to offer the entire variety
of trends coexisting in today's flamenco, from the strictest
tradition to contemporary innovations. Moreover, it offers
a substantial program of related activities including workshops,
lectures and exhibits. The festival is to be held from January
19th to February 18th, 2006 in cities such as New York,
Chicago, Washington, Boston and Miami, for the first time
extending to two Canadian cities: Vancouver and Montreal.
At the same its homologue, Flamenco
Festival London 2006, will take place in the United
Kingdom.
