Vicente Amigo releases his fifth solo album,
‘Un momento en el sonido’, in April

Flamenco-world.com, March 2005

After nearly five years without coming out with any solo work, Vicente Amigo releases his new album ‘Un momento en el sonido’ (‘A Moment in Sound’) on April 4, 2005. Since the release of ‘Ciudad de las ideas’ in 2000, the Córdoba-born guitarist has released the record ‘Canto’ with El Pele, collaborated with Sting on the album ‘Sacred Love’ and devoted himself to his international tours. “It's been five years in which I've been doing tours and other albums non-stop, but now I want to spend more time on my solo work”. The album includes bulerías, soleá, farruca, taranta, tangos, rumba, zapateado and bolero, with the participation of musicians such as Joan Albert Amargós, Tino di Geraldo and cantaor Potito.

On this fifth record, Vicente Amigo tries “to get a new message across and to keep what I've always been”. The Córdoba-born guitarist affirms that “it's a very serious, very flamenco album”. Bulerías, soleá, farruca, taranta, tangos, rumba, zapateado and bolero are the styles shaping up the repertoire of ‘Un momento en el sonido’. Next to his own guitar, there are musicians such as percussionist Tino di Geraldo and composer Joan Albert Amargós. The touches of cante are taken care of by artists like El Potito and Antonio Villar since, as the tocaor comments, “I've sought purity, not the marketing of names”.

Dedications also stand out on the album. “The bolero is dedicated to my son Marcos, so that he doesn't get jealous of his brother Vicente, who I dedicated another one to on the previous album”, he says. “And one of the bulerías is for bullfighter José Tomás. I was excited about it”. With a cover by painter José Luis Muñoz, the record ‘Un momento en el sonido’ means the return of one of the great guitarists on the flamenco scene, distinguished for his restlessness and ability to renovate. “I've achieved what I wanted to with ‘Un momento en el sonido’”, Vicente Amigo finishes, “and the album's title reflects exactly what I'm seeking”.
