Flamenco celebrates Christmas 2007
with zambombas in Jerez and Seville

Flamenco-world.com, December 2007

Flamenco Christmas is intricately linked to the zambomba. In the days before Christmas Eve, courtyards, peñas and squares in Jerez are filled with neighbors’ circles which sing and dance Christmas carols to a bulería beat around a bonfire. At least ten of them are scheduled from December 18th to 22nd, 2007 at different points in town. The tradition, which dates back to the 18th century, spreads this year to Seville, which imports two zambombas from the neighboring city of Jerez that will be enjoyed in Alameda de Hércules on Tuesday the 18th and Wednesday the 19th, and an additional one which will be held on Thursday the 20th in the 2007 Flamenco Thursdays Series.
