The zambomba is flamenco’s soundtrack at Christmas. During December 2011, squares, bars, wine bars and stages in Jerez are livened up by circles of Christmas carols por bulerías. One of the most talked-about events there is the popular zambomba scheduled for December 24th at the Plaza de la Asunción. But there are so many that City Hall itself includes them in a special agenda. Seville has firmly joined this type of celebration, with dates organized at forums such as Flamenco Thursdays and the Teatro Quintero, which proposes the dialogue between this tradition and that of the bell-ringers, between Jerez and Triana. Artists like Fernando Moreno, Nano de Jerez, Diego Carrasco and Jesús Méndez head up some of these gatherings open to the public’s participation.
